This is how holiday rental owners described Korčula
The town of Korcula is located on the eastern part of the island of Korcula.
As the whole island is rich in natural beauty, the city of Korcula is abundant with the richness of forests, coves, islets and hills, which is above all a mild climate.
The old medieval town ...
show more of Korcula, a miniature museum in the open, with its harmonious architecture, attracts Korčula's guests. Thanks to the centuries-old tradition of stone processing, the old town was built and richly decorated by the most homely craftsmen in the 14th and 15th centuries in the Florentine, Renaissance and Baroque style. The eye of the visitors is equally interesting and beautiful: street raster, squares, walls, church tower, palaces, public and residential buildings, museums, museum collections, icon museum, ruin house with the tower, great passenger Marco Polo.
The architectural architecture is certainly the cathedral of St. The Mark, whose bell tower was built by the greatest Korčula builder in the second half of the 15th century, Marko Andrijić.
The statute of the town and the island of Korcula from 1214 confirms that the city existed at that time.
What gives a unique seal to Korčula is the knights' game of moreška, which has been preserved in this town for more than 400 years and which together with the godparents and witches makes the island of Korcula the only island in the Mediterranean with a rich knightly tradition - sword dancing.
Apart from the "seashell", which is regularly organized in season, there is also a rich cultural repertoire prepared by the Center for Culture of Korcula.
Marco Polo has traveled to Far East, the Silk Road began in his hometown with whom he still has many connections, not just legends. This is most confirmed by the naval battle between Genoa and Venice on July 7, 1298, which took place in the Korcula basin (100 ships and 15,000 battlefields), where Marco Polo as commander of the Venetian gala was captured and then imprisoned in Genoa where his book about the wonders of the world dictated to an inmate Rustichell.
The house hall of Marco Polo near the cathedral is open to visitors as well as the exhibition of the Marko Pola Museum outside the city walls, which shows the life of the world's most famous traveler and explorer.
The town of Korcula offers its guests numerous cultural-traditional, entertainment and sporting events and quality accommodation - hotel and private accommodation, accommodation in camps. ACI marina Korčula offers an enviable view of nautical tourism.
